Onboarding and how-it-works videos
Some products do not need a hype video, because what they need is to be understood. An onboarding video walks a new user from signup to their first success, and a how-it-works video traces one real job through the product from end to end.
These are the longest-lived videos we make. They sit in docs, onboarding emails, and sales threads for years, and they get watched by people who have already signed up and now need the product to work. A tutorial voice
One video in our sample set is a tutorial walkthrough, in which one request is traced from start to finish and explained step by step. Another runs from the install command to the first handled request inside a single terminal window. The pacing is patient on purpose, because the viewer is not deciding whether to care, and is instead trying to get something done.
Longer videos are fine here
A viewer who has already signed up will sit through three minutes if the three minutes save them an hour. The Pro tier runs to two and a half minutes and the Flagship to three, which is enough to walk through a real workflow without rushing it.
